I had a design done and got a good quote from Carlos. His team came and did a mockup on site and then went back to the shop to do the work. I stopped by the shop a couple times to see progress. The flowers of the cascading Cymbidium could grow to be so dense that it totally covers the growing container. These floriferous (yes, that’s a real word) orchids do not require any chilling period; in fact, you should keep these tropical orchids continuously warm. Produce large, attractive flowers that come in many different colors. The roundness of these flowers is a very desirable trait and commercial hybridizers work hard to develop plants that produce the fullest looking flowers.

As a co-founder and the Director of Operations, Ali’s superpowers span from monitoring the day-to-day efficiency of Cal Coast to securing growth and development opportunities. In New Zealand, Bas was tasked with reviving a struggling Phalaenopsis orchid production that was prepared to shut down their greenhouses. After implementing his own sustainability plan and crafting a Phalaenopsis handbook for the company, they have successfully continued to cultivate these plants–ten years later. The origin of Cal Coast Orchids was more than a dream — it was embracing a legacy.
Bas van Eijk and Alison Glasco went on their first date in 2013 upon his arrival in the United States. The homegrown farmer and Los Angeles native shared a romance that quickly blossomed into a happy marriage, and their shared interests sparked a dream that they could achieve together–Cal Coast Orchids. With Bas’s extensive background in horticulture and Alison’s landscaping experience and schooling in the sciences, the couple was well-prepared to begin.
The IOD sisters believe everyone is uniquely created to create uniquely and they aim to inspire, empower and encourage them to do just that. Josie has been happily married to her high school sweetheart, Aaron, since 1988. Together, they have 6 beautiful children and a homestead with several farm animals.
